The Housebook of Wolfegg Castle is an extended war manual coupled with information of domestic interest to a noble household. Produced in the last quarter of the fifteenth century probably in the middle Rhine region by several artists and scribes, it survives today incomplete. The compilation includes treatises on memory art and mnemonics, astronomy, noble life, metallurgy, and war technology, as well as alchemical recipes. Among its forty drawings are vibrant and lively illustrations of the planets and castle life and detailed drawings of siege weaponry.
