The Graduale Witracense, first discovered in the Weitra parish and city archive, is a 12th-century liturgical manuscript containing Gregorian chants for special weekdays, Sundays, and feast days in the church year. Originally used as bookbindings during the Reformation, these parchment leaves were carefully restored after being recognized by Dr. Wolfgang Katzenschlager. The manuscript, linked to Salzburg origins, features chants from Lent to July 10 and includes rare hymns like "Rex sanctorum angelorum." The neume notation, akin to St. Gall forms, includes unique features like the "oculus witracensis," enhancing its distinctiveness and contributing to studies of southern German choral dialects.
