Made in Constantinople in the late thirteenth century, the Vatopedi Octateuch is a large manuscript that formed the second volume of a two-volume Christian Octateuch, a manuscript of the first eight books of the Greek translation of Hebrew scripture. Its text and 160 images were largely copied from a twelfth-century manuscript (Vatican City, Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana, MS Vat. gr. 746), but the artist also borrowed some features from the Joshua Roll. The miniatures are distinguished by their careful execution, with gently-shaded facial features and drapery forms contributing to their naturalism.
We have 1 facsimile edition of the manuscript "Vatopedi Octateuch": The Octateuch of the Monastery of Vatopedi (Codex 602) facsimile edition, published by Ephesus Publishing, 2005
