The Vatican Vaticinia de Pontificibus is an illuminated manuscript of a prophetic text concerning the fate of the Catholic Church. It is structured as a series of papal biographies, with corresponding portraits, beginning with Nicholas III and continuing to John XXIII and future, yet-unelected popes. The prophecies were likely originally conceived to influence papal elections. This copy, completed in Venice around 1410-1415, features thirty-two framed miniatures, usually portraits of popes against a rich blue background with emblems of the pictured pope's family.
