The Vatican Decameron is a French translation of the Decameron by Giovanni Boccaccio. It is illuminated with 100 large framed miniatures in the International Style identified as the work of the Master of the Cité des Dames. It was produced in Paris between 1414 and 1418, most likely for Jean de France, Duke of Berry, a famed patron of illuminated manuscripts. The miniatures mark the beginnings of the 100 erotic, humorous, and satirical novellas set near Florence against the backdrop of the Black Death.
