The Trevelyon Miscellany of 1608 is a commonplace book, a manuscript of knowledge reflecting the interests of its compiler. Thomas Trevilian, a Londoner, copied its texts and images from printed books, engravings, and woodcuts. The manuscript provides valuable insight into the worldview of an English craftsman at the turn of the seventeenth century. Its hundreds of images include figural scenes of daily life and episodes from Christian and secular history, portraits, personifications of abstract concepts, and diagrams. It is famous for its embroidery patterns.
