A sixteenth-century manuscript inscribed in tablature, found among Isabel de Valois' personal documents, it offers a unique glimpse into the musical preferences of the era. Suitable for performance on the vihuela or a keyboard instrument, it features the following titles: Ribera berde umbrosa, Guárdame las vacas, Contrapunto sobre el Conde Claros, Pabanilla, Por unos ojuelos negros, Falsa m'es la'spiga, and La moreta. Presented as a sizable double folio, it comprises three inscribed pages plus one blank, and is cataloged as Folio 130 within batch 394 titled Royal Houses and Properties.

Its cover, with various annotations dating from the nineteenth century, includes another single folio quite different from the rest. The paper, contents, and notation are not at all uniform, indicating not only that the pieces were transcribed by more than one amanuensis but also that they were intended for more than one recipient.

International social justice movements and the debates that ensued prompted us to start considering the contents of our website from a critical point of view. This has led us to acknowledge that most of the texts in our database are Western-centered. We have asked the authors of our content to be aware of the underlying racial and cultural bias in many scholarly sources, and to try to keep in mind multiple points of view while describing the manuscripts. We also recognize that this is yet a small, first step towards fighting inequality.

If you notice any trace of racist or unjust narratives in our communications, please help us be part of the change by letting us know.
