The Paris Splendor Solis ("Splendor of the Sun") is an elaborately decorated alchemical treatise, based on the work of Salomón Trismosin and with input by Rudolf II, Holy Roman Emperor, who had a deep interest in alchemy and astrology. The twenty-one full-page miniatures, all with full borders, seem to draw connections between nature and alchemy. The illumination of a crowned king within a flask bears the date of 1577 (fol. 29v). The exact place of production is unknown.
