Made either at the Cistercian abbey of Morimondo in Lombardy or its mother house of Morimond in northeastern France around 1174, the Morimondo Antiphonal - Temporal is a notated manuscript choir book containing chants to be sung in prayer services at Morimondo. It includes chants for the major Christian holidays, beginning with Advent—the season of preparation for Christmas—and for Sundays, as well as a tonary (which groups chants by their musical mode). The manuscript features fourteen decorated initials with foliate and geometric motifs.
