The Model Book of Stephan Schriber was made around 1494 in Urach (southwestern Germany). Its thirty folios are filled with sample decorations, historiated initials, and fantastic animals, foliage, and flourishes meant for the book's owner, scribe/illustrator Stephan Schriber, to copy in commissioned manuscripts. Many of the pages are painted with bold colors and illuminated with gold, although a few pages are left unfinished. Some of the nine miniatures that depict Christian subjects, for example, are only partially painted, contrasting the pen-drawn figures to the elaborate backgrounds or page borders.
We have 1 facsimile edition of the manuscript "Model Book of Stephan Schriber": Das spätgotische Musterbuch des Stephan Schriber facsimile edition, published by Reichert Verlag, 1981
