This luxurious manuscript of Military Ordinances, which comprises descriptions of ceremonies and edicts for trial by combat, was made in Paris around 1460-1465 for François II, Duke of Brittany. The rules for a duel, which the text claims were put in place by Phillip IV, King of France, are illustrated with eleven half-page miniatures by the Master of Jean Rolin that demonstrate each phase of such ritualized combat with figures in full chivalric regalia before an energetic audience.
We have 1 facsimile edition of the manuscript "Military Ordinances": Libro de los torneos. Ceremonias y ordenanzas facsimile edition, published by Club Bibliófilo Versol, 2019
