The Life of Charlemagne by Einhard manuscript in Vienna was copied in the tenth century in western Germany. Its first text is the biography of the Frankish king Charlemagne by his friend Einhard, which recounts Charlemagne's family, administration, and achievements. The second and longer text is an anonymous biography of Charlemagne's son, Louis the Pious, who succeeded him as ruler of the Franks.
