Idomeneo K. 366 is an opera seria composed by Mozart in 1781. It was commissioned by the Elector of Bavaria and premiered at the Cuvilliés Theatre in Munich. Set in ancient Crete, it tells the story of Idomeneo, King of Crete, and his struggles with love, duty, and divine intervention. The opera showcases Mozart's mastery of complex vocal writing and dramatic storytelling. Alongside Idomeneo, Mozart also composed the Ballet K. 367 to be performed during the opera. The ballet serves as a delightful interlude and it enhances the overall theatrical experience with its lively and enchanting dance sequences.
