Made around 1542-1547 in Venice, the Atlas of Henry VIII is an atlas prepared for Henry, King of England, by Battista Agnese. Besides its ten maps, the manuscript boasts an elaborate, painted dedication to Henry; the arms of Great Britain; a declination table; and a representation of an armillary sphere. A representation of a compass with the names of the winds in English is presumably an addition to the original atlas. A representation of the Barberini library and family members was added in the seventeenth century.
