The Geographic Compendium of Pedro Texeira is a small-format manuscript comprising a world map, a map of Iberia, and six detailed maps of Iberian coastlines, accompanied by prose descriptions. Dedicated to Diego Messía y Felípez de Guzmán, Marquis of Leganés, it was made between 1630 and 1634 in Madrid, where the Portuguese-born Pedro settled. The maps are all executed in ink with delicate washes of blue and ocher, bold opaque red, and gold. The maps of Iberia and its coastlines feature images of sailing ships and small bird's-eye-view representations of large cities.
