The Florence Carmina Regia is a manuscript collection of panegyric poetry written in homage to Robert of Anjou, King of Naples. It was produced in Italy in the first half of the fourteenth century, shortly after the original text was written. It is lavishly decorated, boasting fifty-nine paintings, many intricately intertwined with the text. A striking portrait of the king himself, enthroned against a background of large golden fleurs-de-lis, faces a personification of Italy on the facing page (fols. 10v-11r).
