On the Symmetry of the Human Body (Della simmetria dei corpi humani), credited to "Alberto Durero, pittore e geometra chiarissimo" (a very clear painter and geometer) was printed in Venice by Domenico Nicolini da Sabbio in 1591, nearly a hundred years after Dürer traveled to Venice to study the human body with Italian artists. Dürer's diagrams and illustrations reveal Leonardo Da Vinci's influence. Copiously illustrated, the work explains Dürer's views of the proper aesthetics of the human body and how it was to be displayed correctly within works of art in four books.
