On the register known as Book of the Nail, so named due to the iron nails on its binding, the Guelf Party of Florence kept a record of the sentences handed down to its opponents (Ghibellines or White Guelfs) between 1268 and 1379. It is one of the most famous relics preserved by the State Archives of Florence, a historical source of extraordinary interest, renowned especially for having transmitted the text of the sentences against Dante Alighieri, who was sentenced to exile and capital punishment in 1302. Many other names are listed in the proscription records within this "black book" of the Guelf Party, creating a genuine gallery of Florence's historical glories that unfolds before the reader within these pages.
We have 1 facsimile edition of the manuscript "Book of the Nail": Il Libro del Chiodo facsimile edition, published by Edizioni Polistampa, 2004
