The Book of Lisuarte de Abreu—named for the man who commissioned and partly wrote it— comprises two surviving parts. Part I is a collection of texts relating to maritime travel and voyages of the vessel Rainha; some of the work was completed while aboard the ship between 1558 and 1565. Part II contains copies of the standing portraits of governors and viceroys at the vice-regal palace in Goa, and watercolors of Portuguese naval vessels and their engagements from 1500 to 1565. Part III of the original work is missing.
