The Lorvao Codex is the only surviving copy of Beatus of Liébana'a commentary on the Apocalypse produced in Portugal. Closely linked to the first family of Spanish Beatus manuscripts, the Lorvao Codex includes marginal annotations attesting to the manuscript's use in the Saint Mammes monastery, where it was created in 1189. The manuscript's seventy miniatures feature a reduced palette of red, yellow, and orange, mostly used to color the grounds leaving many of the figures as detailed line drawings.
